When commuters cross the Chester Bridge into Missouri from Illinois, they cannot miss the five fireworks stands located along the first mile. Many southern Illinois residents are making the annual trip over the border to Missouri, Kentucky or Indiana to purchase fireworks that are illegal in Illinois.

A few weeks ago, Swamy said he tried using Madison County Transit's bus system to get to campus.

"I can afford to drive myself, but it's foolish not to use the buses," Swamy said.

I wasn't used to being charged for water. I went to Germany and experienced for the first time being charged for water in a restaurant. In fact, water cost more than the wine and beer. I had heard the rumors, but wasn't sure what to think about it.

Director for the Office of Information Technology, Duane Schiffman, goes to work every morning and spends about 15 minutes deleting spam e-mails, but he isn't complaining.

"The delete key and your finger is a wonderful thing," Schiffman said. "I come in every morning, and the first thing I do is hold down my shift key and hit delete … if I don't recognize who it is from I don't read it.

QUINCY (AP) - As floodwaters slowly recede in some Illinois counties along the Mississippi River, they can't move fast enough for officials keeping a weary eye on damaged crops and strained levees.

No homes or businesses had been lost by Tuesday along the 54-mile Sny levee south of Quincy, but seepage damaged already-planted crops and has kept farmers from planting more, officials said.

The renewal of two charter school agreements and state appropriations requests for FY 2010 were among items approved by the UCM Board of Governors when it met June 18 on campus.

After hearing an update from Mike Wright, dean of the College of Education, on the status of university charter schools in the Kansas City area, the board approved motions to renew charter agreements for Academie Lafayette and Della Lamb Elementary Charter School.
